Ashford has high-speed rail services to London St Pancras, which makes it popular with people who work in London some of the week. Maidstone is Kent’s county town, with a mix of town-centre flats and family houses. The Medway towns (Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham and Strood) have a large stock of terraced housing and good rail links. Canterbury is a cathedral and university city, with demand from students, staff and young professionals.
Kent is made up of several district and borough councils, plus Medway Council, and each sets some of its own housing rules. Some Kent councils use Article 4 directions, which mean converting a family house into a small HMO needs planning permission. Licensing and planning rules can differ between neighbouring towns, so we check the position for your address before a property is let or converted.
Read our general guides on HMO licensing and the Renters’ Rights Act.
If you live in London or elsewhere and own in Kent, full management or guaranteed rent means you don’t need to be on hand. If you’d rather manage it yourself, our software keeps everything organised.
